The world needs godly, trained leaders just as much as the church does. Taking the examples of Jesus and Paul, Reeder presents a model of multiplication that intentionally and continuously raises up other leaders. With its three-pronged approach to leadership development, this book guides readers through time tested paradigm that works in real life and is fully grounded in Scripture. The principles, personal illustrations, and practical ideas it contains will effectively equip leaders and the church for their task of transforming first the body of Christ and then our culture.

The world has gone gray-fuzzy, blurry, gender-neutral gray. In a secularist culture, many people today are confused about what it means to be a man or a woman. Even the church struggles to understand the meaning of manhood and womanhood. In The Grand Design, Owen Strachan and Gavin Peacock clear away the confusion and open up the Scriptures. They show that the gospel frees us to behold the unity and distinctiveness of the sexes. In Christ, we have a script for our lives. Doxology, we discover, is in the details.

John Pollock vividly portrays George Whitefield and his times – George’s long search for peace with God, his joy at being forgiven and justified through Christ’s atoning death and then his enthusiastic sharing of the Gospel. Often facing misunderstanding and even opposition from the established Church, he started to preach in the open air, beginning among the mining community and those who normally wouldn’t come into Church. The story is told of how God worked in a remarkable way through George in Britain and also in the Colonies of America. Traveling many miles by horseback, crossing the Atlantic on countless occasions, sometimes experiencing illness and fatigue, countless people were drawn to Christ through this man – the “Billy Graham” of his time. Come and catch the drama and also the passion and commitment George Whitefield had for the Gospel.

This book is really a text book for anyone involved or interested in Christian counselling. Both the authors teach the subject at a theological seminary in the States. Their influences include Jay Adams, a leading Christian psychologist, and Francis Schaeffer.
Section 1 helps to make a case for a different style of counselling, based on the Bible and on Christian principles. Only a Biblical framework can explain the “why?” of human behaviour. The approach is therefore holistic as it tackles the heart of the human problem – the problem of the human heart.
Section 2 gives background as well as practical guidelines to those interested in becoming Christian Counsellors.
Section 3 outlines the Counselling Process and give practical worksheets and guidelines for helping someone out of their situation.

This model of psychology is very much more prescriptive than anything in secular counselling, or in many Christian circles, but the authors are consistent in their approach and they have been teaching the material for many years. There are good appendices to aid the reader.

More than a century after his death D. L. Moody remains a towering figure whose influence of his evangelism is still felt; the institutions he founded in America continue to flourish; his place in history is secure. But it is his personality that commands attention: rugged, delightful, compassionate, a man of total integrity, with a supreme gift for bringing Christianity before a whole range of contemporary hearers and putting them to work for God. Dwight Lyman Moody (even his wife called him D. L.) was the outstanding evangelist of his time – in his pioneering endeavour and fervour Moody has become an enduring figure of stature and inspiration. He landed at Liverpool, England, unknown and unexpected but when he left Britain -Scotland, Ireland and England were at his feet, he was contagious! John Pollock captures this infectiousness in his classic biography.
