The galleries of the great heroes of faith contain many inspirational women; although not always placed in as prominent a position for all to see, their service has been invaluable in God’s kingdom. The wife of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was such a woman. Bethan Lloyd-Jones’ portrait has long been hidden in a part of the gallery known only to her family and certain close friends. Lynette G. Clark brings this portrait into view, capturing the wit, wisdom, and faith of a godly wife, mother, and friend.

The Christian’s greatest target is to glorify God and to enjoy glorifying Him. The path to this target of enjoying God is described as striving towards spiritual maturity. William Still describes that path through the three results of the death of Jesus – the removal of sins from the believer, the mastery of sin and the defeat of satan, the motive power behind that sin. Living in the shadow of the Cross is living in victory, a victory which means peace with God and hope for eternity.

“This book is small in size but seed-like in nature. From its teaching, strong and healthy Christian lives may be developed. It is a book to be read and reread, to be pondered frequently, applied constantly, and shared with others.”
Sinclair B. Ferguson ~ Senior Minister, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

Until his death in 373, Athanasius was the most formidable opponent of Arianism in the Roman Empire. Ultimately, for him, this fight was not a struggle for ecclesial power or even for the rightness of his theological position. It was a battle for the souls of men and women. Athanasius rightly knew that upon one’s view of Christ hung one’s eternal destiny. As he wrote to the bishops of Egypt in 356: “as therefore the struggle that is now set before us concerns all that we are, either to reject or to keep the faith, let us be zealous and resolve to guard what we have received, bearing in mind the confession that was written down at Nicaea.” And by God’s grace, his victory in that struggle has been of enormous blessing to the church ever since.

The men whose stories appear in this book made up a network of pastors. Through personal contact, or influence, or by reading each other’s books, they were bound together in a spiritual brotherhood. They shared a common burden to see God glorified, his Son magnified, and his Spirit honoured by wholesome and practical biblical preaching, wise pastoral counselling, church and family strengthening, and faithful Christian living. Haste and Parker introduce us to these men, their theology, and the lessons we can learn from them.

-“I can’t forgive them”
-“I would never be able to achieve that”
-“It’s just a bridge too far”

God has been receiving rebellious answers from His children ever since Adam and Eve! So often, just like Jonah, we are blinded by our situations, culture, or our own hearts. So often we ignore what we know God is calling us to do … and we are always left feeling incomplete and far from Him.

Anywhere but Nineveh is a thirty-day devotional which inspires and focuses the mind, not on our rebellion, but instead on a God who speaks to us and on “One greater than Jonah” Who did not run away. This book is an encouragement and a reminder of the simple truths of our beautiful faith – perfect for mature or new Christians.

Sleep is part of our created humanity, a good gift from God to be treasured and enjoyed; an earthly picture of a spiritual reality. In this reflection on sleep, Reynolds reflects on what the Bible has to say about sleep and rest, and how that can impact not only your night but your life. He includes his suggestions for turning off and enjoying rest.
