Author(s): Karen L. Straszheim
Publisher: Ambassador International
Price: $0.99
Amidst the checklists and social engagements for the Christmas season, Karen Straszheim writes for the weary Christian who gets lost in the holiday madness.
By placing a strong emphasis on spiritual rest, Straszheim’s Christmas devotional is divided into eleven chapters that collectively call for Christian to put their shopping bags down and just rest in the Scriptures. A Sanctuary in Our Midst: Christmas Reflections on Jesus is deeply enriched with Scripture references throughout to exemplify how the Old and New Testament complement each other, and how we can understand the Bible.
A Sanctuary in Our Midst is perfect for studying in a group or individually: the discussion questions could be talked about all together over hot cocoa or be used to quietly reflect in one’s own time. Either way, this devotional is a sanctuary in and of itself.
Endorsements
“Karen Straszheim’s A Sanctuary in Our Midst will help you prepare for the Christmas season. She presents the Scriptures in a way that both refreshes the believer in Jesus and answers many questions of those who are seeking the true meaning of Christmas. Karen helps the reader understand the importance of preparing the heart for Christmas. It is refreshing in the application and focuses upon God’s Word. Most of all, A Sanctuary in Our Midst will help you see, “Believing in Jesus is different than being religious.”

Author(s): Philip Jenkins
Publisher: HarperOne
Price: $2.99
“Jenkins is one of America’s top religious scholars.”
—Forbes magazine
The Lost History of Christianity by Philip Jenkins offers a revolutionary view of the history of the Christian church. Subtitled “The Thousand-Year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia—and How It Died,” it explores the extinction of the earliest, most influential Christian churches of China, India, and the Middle East, which held the closest historical links to Jesus and were the dominant expression of Christianity throughout its first millennium. The remarkable true story of the demise of the institution that shaped both Asia and Christianity as we know them today, The Lost History of Christianity is a controversial and important work of religious scholarship that sounds a warning that must be heeded.

A memoir of overcoming pain, fear and doubt, and allowing faith to lead the way to a miraculous life.
You can only resist God’s call for so long. Ask Moses, ask Paul… ask MaryAnne Connor.
As the owner of a successful real estate marketing firm, MaryAnne Connor appeared to have it all. A happy marriage, the respect of her peers and a thriving career. But denial was her stronghold and her enemy. She suffered from chronic pain, dependence on pain medication and her marriage was failing.
And then there were God’s whispers. They were getting louder. He wanted her to shift to a life of helping others. But how could He use her when she was so broken? (more…)

Publisher: Reformation Heritage Books
Price: $2.99 (Dec 7-8)
‘The Christian’s Only Comfort’ is the sermonic exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism by Theodore VanderGroe (1705–1784), a prominent divine of the Dutch Further Reformation. VanderGroe’s exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism could be considered his magnum opus, and in some ways, it was esteemed as highly by the godly in the Netherlands as The Christian’s Reasonable Service of Wilhelmus à Brakel. In this able exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism, we find the unmistakable characteristics of the Dutch Further Reformation: it is steeped in Scripture; it is very pastoral; and it promotes a robust, comprehensive form of Reformed piety.
Endorsements:
“Theodore VanderGroe was one of the most renowned Dutch ministers of the eighteenth century. He referred to his doctrine as ‘our healthy, mystical divinity.’ His Reformed experiential mysticism is healthy, for it has God’s Word as its benchmark. Even today, many of his works are well known in the Reformed-experiential segment of the Dutch population. Acquaintance with his exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism is, however, minimal, and I rejoice that this will no longer be the case with this publication. The fundamental tenor of VanderGroe’s preaching that the law wounds and the gospel heal also comes to the fore in his exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism.
Amid the current prevalence of so much superficial literature, it is refreshing to read this exposition of the catechism. His exposition of the preamble of the law, prior to his sermon on Lord’s Day 34, is both surprising and deeply experiential. Never have I read a treatment on this subject that is as clear and as scriptural as this. I wholeheartedly wish to endorse and recommend this beautiful two-volume work that has been forgotten far too long and pray that it will find a wide reception in the English language.” — Cornelis Harinck, prolific author and retired minister of the Gereformeerde Gemeenten in the Netherlands
“Biblical, Christ-centered, and experiential sermons—VanderGroe’s exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism echoes the essence of the Reformation.” — Adriaan C. Neele, director of the doctoral program and professor of historical theology, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Forced to Spy for Grave Robbers
True Colors – Fiction Based on Strange-But-True History
In 1824, Josephine Clayton is considered dead by everyone in her Massachusetts village–especially the doctor she has assisted for several months. Yet, she is still very much alive.
After the doctor’s illegal dealings with his body snatcher to obtain her body, Josephine awakens, positioned as the next corpse for his research. To cover up his crime, the doctor tries to kill her, but Josephine begs to be spared. They strike a deal–Josephine will leave her village and work at a distant cotton mill. All the while, she’ll await her true mission–posing as a mourner to help the body snatcher procure her replacement.
At the mill though, Josephine is praised for her medical remedies among the other female workers, gaining attention from the handsome factory manager, Braham Taylor. Yet, when Braham’s own loved one becomes the prey for the next grave robbing, Josie must make a choice that could put her dark past behind her or steal away the promise of any future at all.
What price will Josie pay for love when her secrets begin to unravel?
