Many Christians consider this book confusing because of the cryptic descriptions and rich symbolism found within its pages. Some are frightened by its message of judgment while others are fascinated with the mystical characters who will appear in the last days. But that is not what Christ intended. He expects us to understand it because we should have studied the entire scope of Scripture so that these symbols, signs, and semantics would all be familiar to us. Sadly many Christians never read or study their Bible diligently so when it comes to understanding this book, they are totally lost. This is the only book in the Bible that has a blessing attached to it. That indicates its importance in God’s eyes. The blessing is for those who not only read and understand but keep the words of this book. We can’t keep what we can’t understand. Therefore, to understand the book, it has to be taken in the context which the writer intended—this is the only way everyone can possibly come to a proper and common understanding. In this age of huge scientific and technological breakthroughs when information travels at the speed of light, we are beginning to see where this rapid progress is taking us and how much of what John had written is starting to make sense. Indeed, the time is at hand.

The God Who Comforts is a spiritual reading of Jesus’ upper room discipleship sermon. What started out as a Passover meal became an inspiring and spiraling manifesto of comfort and challenge. Jesus propels the conversation forward into our hearts and minds. When Jesus got up off his knees and resumed his place of authority, he framed this strategic discourse in the Truth that cannot be packaged as a consumer product or programmed to fit the secular mind. Four distinct comings shape Jesus’ sermon in the upper room: his final coming, the Parousia; his gift of the Spirit, the Paraclete; his death and resurrection, the Passion; and his abiding fellowship, the Presence. These four comings are the ways in which Jesus draws near to his disciples, reassuring them that they are not alone. Throughout this conversation we are in the company of the eleven, hearing Jesus speak to us as he spoke to them. This discourse continues to reset twenty-one centuries of discipleship according to the revelation of Jesus Christ.

“With illuminating quotes from Ignatius to Bono, Webster prods us to see the events of the upper room through fresh eyes. Be prepared to be enlightened, challenged, and changed by this scholarly yet very personal examination of John 14-16.”

Many today may be discouraged by the condition of Christianity in Scotland, while unaware of its powerful legacy.

Following on from Glory in the Glen and Land of Many Revivals, Scotland Ablaze continues Tom Lennie’s compelling historical series on Scottish revival movements. Lennie here focuses on the inspiring period from 1858–79 in which much of Scotland was spiritually awakened, affecting every Scottish county.

In three parts, Lennie guides us meticulously through the origins of the 1859–61 revival and each area affected, then goes on to chronicle a series of little–known revival after–waves that continued through the 1860s and early ‘70s, and finally the remarkable evangelistic campaign of Moody and Sankey, in which many have discerned the holy breath of authentic revival.

Through this deeply encouraging and fascinating read, may we not only see the power and impact of God’s work in our history, but may we excitedly anticipate His miraculous work in our future.

Over the last 100 years, scientists in various fields have persuasively argued that the Earth was formed by evolutionary processes operating over long periods of time. How is a Christian to reconcile these ideas with the Genesis creation account? Doesn’t the Bible teach that God spoke the Earth into existence fully formed just 6,000 years ago?

The saving message of the Gospel is the heartbeat of this preacher and evangelist. Millions around the world heard Billy Graham proclaim this unchanging truth. He never forgot the transformation of his own life, when he first said yes to God’s gift of salvation, and he witnessed multitudes turn their hearts to the God of Hope.

What is the most hopeful word in History? For Billy Graham, that word is SALVATION.

Billy Graham proclaimed God’s Gospel with resolve and deep compassion. It is a message he preached for more than seventy years. And in this book you will sense its urgency, filled with hope for the future.

Salvation is what we all long for, when we are lost or in danger or have made a mess of our lives. And salvation belongs to us, when we reach out for the only One who can rescue us—Jesus.

The Reason for My Hope: Salvation presents the essence of that transformative message. It is biblical and timeless, and though simple and direct, it is far from easy. There are hard words, prophetic words, directed toward a culture that denies the reality of sin and distracts us from the veracity of Hell. But through its ominous warnings shines a light that cannot be extinguished—a beacon of hope that Jesus came “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
