We’re being formed by our devices. Today’s digital technologies are designed to captivate our attention and encroach on our boundaries, shaping how we relate to time and space, to ourselves and others, even to God. Our natural longing for relationship makes us vulnerable to the “industrializing” effects of social media. While we enjoy the benefits of digital tech, many of us feel troubled with its power and exhausted by its demands for permanent connectivity. Yet even as we grow disenchanted, attempting to resist the digital “powers that be” might seem like a losing battle.
Sociologist Felicia Wu Song has spent years considering the personal and collective dynamics of living in digital ecosystems. In this book she combines psychological, neurological, and sociological insights with theological reflection to explore two major questions:

What kind of people are we becoming with personal technologies in hand?
And who do we really want to be?

When we encounter human suffering or personal tragedy, Christians and non-Christians alike utter the same refrain: Where is God? If God exists, then where in the world is he? Why doesn’t he show himself? And how can we tell if God is really working or not? Tim Muehlhoff gives us insight into recognizing how God is at work in the world. He unpacks the doctrine of common grace to uncover how God works in ways that we don’t always realize. If we have a limited idea of what divine action looks like–dramatic answers to prayer, healings with no medical explanation, financial needs being met unexpectedly–then we miss seeing how God acts through common grace in ordinary, everyday ways such as antibiotics, financial planners, and thoughtful friends. Muehlhoff offers dozens of illustrations from contemporary culture to help us understand and communicate how God is present and acting in the world today. Discover how God cares for our troubled world as he gives you the eyes to see.

The United States history is driven by many forces: fidelity and obedience to the United States Constitution and laws, belief in natural law, morality, religion, individual freedom, family, love for our children, friendships, culture, tradition, history, leadership, philosophy, politics, patriotism, business, jobs, creative ideas, innovations and inventions, technology, education, free-market economics, natural resources, respect and love for nature, access to food, water, land, and property ownership. All these forces influence the nature of our historical society; however, there is no force that is more universal, basic, and true than natural law, and a commitment to a worship, and belief in God. The United States is a natural rights Nation, and these natural rights have an origin in natural law. Our founding documents — the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights — are natural law documents based upon natural law.
